Butterfly stamp

Philatelists interested in a particular subject are very exciting and exceptional people. They collect specific postage stamps, covers, post cards, postmarks and other types of philatelic goods.

A lot of people all over the world like butterflies. This is the reason why so many collectors choose this subject for their collections. Every single collector determines his own collection strategy: focus his attention on specific postage items or products from specific countries and so on. Postage products with the images of different butterflies are issued in a great number of countries.

For example, March 24, 2006, Slovenia issued a butterfly stamp called Butterflies - Erebia calcaria:

Postage stamp issue quite often comes along with the issuing of some additional products. That could be, for example, a First Day Cover (FDC). Collectors may be interested in such products as well because it usually includes not only a butterfly stamp, but an interesting appropriate postmark. The cover can be also properly designed.

Thus, Isle of Man issued Butterfly Collection FDC on April 1, 2011

January 12, 2011, another FDC with the images of butterflies was issued in Spain:

North Korea issued Butterfly FDC on March 5, 2007:butterfly-stamp-4

Every FDC looks like a perfect whole: images of butterflies are on stamps and covers, while postmarks are butterfly-shaped.

Along with FDC postal administrations of different countries issue souvenir sheets, which constitute a quite interesting philatelic items as such. For example, Czech Republic issued Endangered butterflies (WWF) souvenir sheet on June 19, 2002:

Several butterfly stamps nestled in beautiful surroundings on it.

Along with traditional stamps there are self-adhesive stamps. For example, Vanuatu issued souvenir sheet with 6 self-adhesive stamps called Butterflies of Vanuatu on April 14, 2010:

ATM stamps are also quite interesting. For example, set of 3 ATM stamps was issued on February 11, 2007, by Norway:

Sometimes philatelic items display only a part of butterfly, for example, set of 4 stamps called Butterfly wings, issued on May 15, 2008, in Sweden. Each stamp in this set is not actually a butterfly stamp, it's a stamp with image of wings:butterfly-stamp-8
